ln 1981 Kenneth McLean was appointed conductor.
Ken, a native of Dundee, had been leader of the orchestra the previous year and had held once as secretary and treasurer.
He joined the Society in 1966 and his first annual concert as conductor was held in Govan Town Hall over two consecutive Saturdays.
ln 1983 it was decided the Kelvin Hall would be a more suitable venue for the annual as the seating capacity would allow the event to take place in one evening instead of two.
This venue proved popular until the building was closed at the end of 1985.
As luck would have it the Scottish Exhibition Centre had just opened and although built more for conferences, proved a successful venue for many years.
When the Royal Concert Hall came onto the scene, the decision was taken to hold the annual Concert here where seating capacity, comfort and acoustics would be enhanced. The annual concert continues to be held here in May each year.
Rehearsal Halls however were on the move again. The City Halls were announcing a closure for upgrade which would take several years, and as affordable rehearsal space is a premium....the hunt was on.
Temporary accommodation was found in the Glasgow College of Food and Technology for a couple of sessions.
Rehearsal space then became available in the St Columba's Gaelic Church in St Vincent Street, we remained there until 2009 and now rehearse at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama in Glasgow.
Ken has conducted the orchestra through Royal performances, television and radio broadcasts, and several recordings, not forgetting several memorable tours in Ireland.
Undaunted, Ken continues to drive the society forward in its aims to encourage and create interest in the knowledge of the rich heritage of Scottish National Music by practice and public performance.
The society continues to help raise thousands of pounds towards charitable organisations.
From small groups to full orchestra from church halls to concert halls, from fairy tale castles to ferries....the Caledonian Fiddle Orchestra plays on!!
